Stimuli-responsive biomaterials to counteract damaged cardiac tissue after myocardial infarction

In this project, new treatment strategies will be developed in the field of regenerative cardiovascular medicine involving: 1) the creation of hydrogel-based adhesives for topical application to the heart to release active principles capable of providing a better recovery of the heart muscle after coronary artery bypass graft surgeries or intracoronary stents implantation; and 2) the creation of new fully absorbable intra-coronary stents, or stents coated with absorbable polymers, capable of locally releasing active principles that reduce the risks of thrombosis and prevent coronary artery re-occlusion after angioplasty with stents.
